Efflorescence, oxidation, mineral buildup and hard water film are all mineral problems, which is why crews have historically reached for muriatic acid. PUREETCH replaces muriatic acid in any situation, yet poses no threat to personnel, equipment or the environment. At full strength it is strong enough to etch or remove concrete and mortar; diluted, it becomes a tile and grout cleaner, a toilet bowl cleaner, or a window cleaner for hard water buildup. Your control lever is dilution.

What you need on the truck

  • Chemical-resistant sprayer
  • Stiff brush for masonry, soft brush or pad for tile and glass
  • Flood rinse capability — plenty of clean water
  • Wet vacuum for interior tile and grout work
  • Gloves and eye protection

Dilution: Light cleaning 20:1, general cleaning 10:1, heavy cleaning 5:1 — and full strength only when the goal is genuinely to etch or remove concrete and mortar. Always start weak and step up.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Identify what you are actually removing

    White powder that wipes away is usually efflorescence; a hard, glassy film on glass or fixtures is mineral scale; a chalky sheen on old concrete is oxidation. All three respond to PUREETCH, but they need different dilutions and dwell times.

    Dry-remove the loose material

    Brush or vacuum off loose efflorescence before wetting anything. Removing it dry means the product works on the bonded deposit instead of turning powder into paste.

    Test on a hidden area at the weakest ratio

    Start at 20:1 on a small hidden square. Because full-strength product can etch concrete and mortar, a test patch is what keeps a cleaning job from becoming a profile change you did not intend.

    Protect and pre-wet the surroundings

    Pre-wet adjacent concrete, mortar joints, metal fixtures and plantings. On interior tile, protect trim and cabinet bases and have the wet vacuum ready before you spray.

    Apply, dwell and agitate in small sections

    Work in sections you can rinse before anything dries. Let it dwell, then agitate: stiff brush on masonry, soft pad on tile and glass. Watch the surface — when the deposit releases, you are done, and more dwell just risks the substrate.

    Flood rinse and neutralise the runoff path

    Rinse with far more water than feels necessary, especially on porous masonry, so no active product stays in the pores. Follow the runoff and rinse where it collected.

    Prepping for coatings? Check the profile

    If you are etching to prep for a sealer or coating, confirm the surface profile and moisture requirements from the coating manufacturer before applying anything on top. Rinse residue is the most common cause of coating failure.

Mistakes that cost you the job

  • Jumping straight to full strength on a surface you only meant to clean
  • Wetting efflorescence before brushing off the loose powder
  • Under-rinsing porous masonry, so the deposit reappears as the wall dries
  • Using a stiff brush on glass or polished tile and leaving scratches
  • Treating a whole facade before confirming the result on one test panel

Does PUREETCH really replace muriatic acid?

Can it be used indoors on tile and grout?
Yes. Diluted, it works as a tile and grout cleaner and even a toilet bowl cleaner. Ventilate, protect trim, and use a wet vacuum to control the rinse.
Will it remove hard water spots on glass?
Diluted, it is used as a window cleaner to remove hard water buildup. Use a soft pad, keep the glass wet, and rinse fully.
Why did efflorescence come back after a week?
Efflorescence is moisture moving salts to the surface. Cleaning removes the deposit; if the moisture path is still there it will return. Address drainage, sealing or the source of water alongside the cleaning.
