Biodegradable degreaser: what it is & where to use it

A biodegradable degreaser lifts grease, oil and grime with water-based chemistry that breaks down after use — no harsh solvents, no butyls, no caustics. Here's how to spot a real one, where it works, and which EcoBlend concentrate fits your job.

What makes a degreaser biodegradable

Four things to look for on the label

Water-based

The cleaning power comes from the concentrate plus water — not petroleum solvents — so there are no harsh fumes around crews or customers.

Solvent-free & butyl-free

No harsh solvents or butyls. The formula breaks down after use instead of persisting in soil or waterways.

Non-flammable & low-VOC

Non-flammable and low-VOC compliant in the U.S. and Canada — simpler storage, transport and compliance paperwork.

Concentrated

One concentrate dilutes from light wipe-down to heavy degreasing, so fewer products on the shelf and less packaging overall.

Applications

Where a biodegradable degreaser earns its keep

  • Fleet, shop & garage floors
  • Engines & heavy equipment
  • Concrete, sidewalks & parking lots
  • Commercial kitchens & food prep areas
  • Aircraft & ground support equipment
  • Building exteriors & dumpsters

EcoBlend's degreasing concentrate is aviation rated for Boeing and Airbus, water-based, non-flammable and low-VOC compliant in the U.S. and Canada — proudly made in the USA.

How to use it

One concentrate, three dilution rates

Every EcoBlend concentrate uses the same published rates. Dilution, dwell time and agitation decide whether the surface comes clean the first time — our guides walk through each job step by step.

  • 20:1

    Light cleaning

  • 10:1

    General cleaning

  • 5:1

Common questions

How do I know if a degreaser is biodegradable?
Check the label and the Safety Data Sheet (SDS). A genuinely biodegradable degreaser is typically water-based and free of harsh solvents and butyls, and the manufacturer states biodegradability outright. Every EcoBlend concentrate is biodegradable, solvent-free and butyl-free, and an SDS and TDS are included with every shipment.
Are citrus or purple degreasers biodegradable?
It depends on the formula, not the color or scent. Citrus and purple degreasers range from water-based and biodegradable to solvent-heavy. The only reliable check is the manufacturer's label and SDS — not marketing color.
How do I dispose of a biodegradable degreaser?
Follow the product's SDS and your local regulations. Biodegradable means the chemistry breaks down over time; it does not mean used wash water containing grease, oil or lifted contaminants can be dumped anywhere. Collect rinse water where required and dispose of it according to local rules.
Can a biodegradable degreaser handle heavy grease?
Yes. EcoBlend's concentrates are published at three dilution rates — light 20:1, general 10:1 and heavy 5:1 — so the same product handles daily wipe-downs and heavy petroleum grease at the stronger dilutions, with dwell time and agitation.

Use & safety notice

Results depend on surface condition, equipment, dwell time, water quality and operator technique. Always test in an inconspicuous area before full application. Follow the dilution guidance and read the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and Technical Data Sheet (TDS) before use. Keep out of reach of children and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
